Sally's story

I had my first child Tyler when I’d just turned 19. He is twenty now!

I was so proud I could breastfeed him but after a month or so, I went for lunch with my mum and a lady came over to our table and said I was putting her off her lunch.

I was so upset and from then on wouldn’t feed in public. I became very self-conscious and uncomfortable breastfeeding, which in turn led to my son not being comfortable, so I gave up.

Four years later I had my daughter and being more confident, I wanted to breastfeed again but only managed a few months due to a lack of support and knowledge.

My long rollercoaster breastfeeding journey does finish off with a happy story with my newest addition who I had a few weeks before my 39th birthday. She latched on effortlessly in the delivery room and together with the support of my friends, family and local services we are still exclusively breastfeeding at over five months with no signs of stopping.
